Painting

I have been thinking about trying my hand at painting for some time and with my recent move to Australia and the decision not to bring my model railroading with me the time seemed good. So I went out and bought myself some basic supplies and started painting. Here is my work so far...

Karangahake
Karangahake.

This is an acrylic painting on unframed stretched canvas. The painting is inspired by the New Zealand Railway station in the Karangahake gorge in the late 1950's. Karangahake is my first painting and while I am not 100% happy with it, I am pleased with my results.

Pilot Bay
Pilot Bay.

This is an acrylic painting on unframed stretched canvas. The painting is my interpretation of this beautiful harbour beach and the famous Mt Maunganui. This is an iconic scene from my hometown. I see an improvement on my technique from Karangahake but still plenty of room to improve.

Aoraki & Lake Tekapo
Aoraki & Lake Tekapo.

This is an acrylic painting on unframed stretched canvas. The painting is my first atempt at a snow capped mountain scene. A further develepment of my technique and I am learning more of how to work the paint and use my brushes to acheive a result.

Southern Cross
Southern Cross.

This is an acrylic painting on unframed stretched canvas. This one is my version of a painting by Wayne Clements. I'm very pleased with this painting. As with my other paintings I can see room for improvent but there is further development of my skill and new techniques learned.

Psalm 113:3
Psalm 113:3.

This is an acrylic painting on unframed stretched canvas. I awoke early in the morning with the inspiration for this painting.

"From dawn until sunset, the name of the Lord deserves to be praised."

Waterfall
The Waterfall.

This is an acrylic painting on unframed stretched canvas. This is the most difficult painting I have done to date. It was inspired by a painting by Ken Harris.

Moonrise
Moonrise.

This is an acrylic painting on unframed stretched canvas. One of my favourite paintings to date. It was inspired by a painting by Wayne Clements.

Model T
Model T.

This is an acrylic painting on unframed stretched canvas. An exercise in painting with a limited palett. It was inspired by a painting by Wayne Clements.

Journey
The Journey.

This is an acrylic painting on 300GSM watercolour paper. This painting speaks of my spiritual journey and the new life found in Jesus Christ.

Sunset Cottage
Sunset Cottage.

This is an acrylic painting on unframed stretched canvas. This painting was done as a comission for a friend from work. It was inspired by a painting by Wayne Clements.

Magpie Dreaming
Magpie Dreaming.

This my first oil painting and is on unframed stretched canvas. I really enjoyed working with oil and particularly like the subtlety of colour possible and the way the paint is more easily blended. It was inspired by a painting by Rob Moore.
